30a - final reflection

The thing that sticks out the most from this semester is the overall creation of a product and fake business. There wasn’t any one assignment in particular that was substantial, whether it was the fact that from basically the first week of class I have been working with an idea that I made up for this class and as time went on it became more and more realistic. If I had to choose one thing that did stand out, I would say it is the elevator pitches, mostly because I tried to memorize what to say and recording videos like that is out of my comfort zone. I generally don’t have an issue talking with people in person or doing a pitch (although I wouldn’t perform it like an automation, like the assignment requires), but having to memorize it and perform in front of a camera for a grade was a little different. This is something that I think I did surprisingly well on but it is still something I need to become more comfortable with.

I don’t think I have totally adapted to an entrepreneurial mindset, but I think my entrepreneurial interest and awareness has definitely increased. Other than looking for solutions to things, I have often found myself wondering how the heads of business operate and make decisions.

My one recommendation for students to do well in this class is to just manage your time and workload, sometimes these assignments can be sneakily difficult and/or long to complete. Furthermore, they need to pay attention to the lectures well to do good on cupcakes. To foster the mindset, I would always be open minded and choose a good business for this class or else all the assignments will probably seem annoying. I chose a business that I ended up becoming interested in (although it's likely I will never pursue it in real life) and it made the assignments a little more bearable.

  1. Hi Marcus, great post! I have really enjoyed reading your posts over the semester and think you did a great job at the creation of your fake business. I also liked your advice for future students to pick a business they are interested in. I wish I could go back and change my business to something I am more passionate about, because before I knew it, I was fully involved in developing this one concept.

  2. Hey Marcus, I enjoyed reading your post. I think that creating of a product from start to finish has been challenging and you killed it with your product. I like the advise you gave for students coming into the class about having an open mindset and choosing a business concept that they believe in and can see it come to fruition. I definitely struggled with pin pointing my idea in the begining of the class.

  3. Great wrap up Marcus. I agree that this course and the elevator pitches were great practice for developing a real business idea or presenting a product. I haven’t completely adopted an entrepreneurial mindset either, but I like that you mentioned having a new perspective in making business decisions and that will definitely be the biggest takeaway from this course in the future.

  4. Hello Marcus,
I also said that the elevator pitch stood out to me because it was something, I was really uncomfortable doing at first. I hadn’t really ever had assignments that required recording a video to present, normally it’s in person. My advice was similar, there was a few times throughout the semester that I would be overwhelmed because I didn’t manage my time.
