Resource 1: determination (capabilities)
V: determination I feel is a necessity, that's what makes it valuable
R: not rare, many people are determined when it comes to entrepreneurship
I: anyone could be just as or more determined, so its very imitable
N: determination is a stand alone capability
Resource 2: public speaking (capabilities)
V: its valuable because of how often it is required
R: not rare, many people are good at public speaking
I: with practice being good is very imitable
N: nothing can be substituted with public speaking skills, but there may be ways around it
Resource 3: creativity (capabilities)
V: without creativity there is no product or direct which makes it valuable
R: not rare; however, it is my original idea so my exact vision is probably unique
I: certain ideas could be hard to imitate others it may not be so hard
N: there is no substitute for creativity, either you have it or you don’t
Resource 4: responsibility (capabilities)
V: without being responsible with and for one’s idea could mean the demise of their business, which makes it valuable
R: not rare, many people are responsible
I: responsibility cannot exactly be imitated, but style of leadership could be
N: nothing can substitute for responsibility but people can have someone else be responsible for their idea/business although it would be unwise most of the time
Resource 5: connections to entrepreneurs
V: I have a connection to an entrepreneur who has successfully run many different business over the years and being able to use him for connections and advice is valuable
R: somewhat rare, not everyone has a (successful) entrepreneur connection, but some do and others will look to connect once they pursue their idea
I: anyone could have a connection to an entrepreneur but it would be hard to imitate the relation I have to this exact person
N: the connection to a person cannot be directly substituted however, they could rely on a different entrepreneur
Resource 6: connections to community
V: this is valuable because not everyone has a close connection with a community to start out. I could use my connections in my town for start up help and networking
R: rare, the community I grew up in was a small town and many people know and support each other. This exact dynamic can be found elsewhere in different communities but not very often
I: can be imitable, others may have had a similar connection to their community
N: cannot be directly substituted
Resource 7: connection to finances
V: having someone to help with finances in the beginning of a business can help prolong and make the business as efficient as possible. My friend in finance is someone I trust and would be fully on board to help me.
R: not rare, there are many financial workers in the world
I: the position is very imitable, having a close, trusted friend to do the finances is less imitable
N: the financial workers could be substituted by doing the work yourself
Resource 8: connection to software engineer and digital design
V: being able to make websites, advertisements and other programs for organization is a valuable tool to have to get ahead of some of the other competitors
R: once again the position itself is not rare, but having a trusted friend who would help with the work is a little more rare
I: the position is very imitable, but the relationship is not
N: once again, the work could be done by yourself without needing someone for the position, but it would take a lot of time to learn it.
Resource 9: connection to sports franchise and related businesses
V: this could be a useful tool when marketing my product. I worked for a minor league baseball team and a sports app and with my connections, these could be large audiences whom I can market my product through.
R: this is very rare, not everyone has these close connections to businesses who may provide discounts for advertisement space that could reach large portions of one’s target market
I: on a lower level the connections are very hard to imitate, but on the larger level, I assume high profile people know other high profile people that could give them advertising space
N: this could be substituted by having connections to a different industry but the relationships themselves cannot be
Resource 10: connections to marketers
V: having a family friend in marketing to help with advertising and getting the product out there is a huge help for a first time entrepreneur
R: somewhat rare, some people may have a similar connections, others may not
I: the connection to a marketer could be imitated, but the relation cannot
N: having someone to help market the product can be substituted by doing the work yourself
I believe my top resource is my connection to the sports franchise and sports app. Having those outlets to market my product through and reach a large part of my target market seems extremely valuable and not a resource everyone has or can imitate/substitute. Because I have close connections with the heads of marketing for both parties, I believe I could get a very good deal on an advertising package with them.

I found it really interesting to learn about your different connections in different spaces - something you could definitely use to your advantage at every stage of developing your business. I also think you have identified a good top resource. It seems that your target market would be interested in sports, so I think it is wise to use the connections from your job for that purpose.

I agree that connections are definitely the factors that can set your venture apart and are hard to substitute. They can get you in front of the right partners who can help you bring your business ideas into successful ventures.
